Get out of Jail Free

remnants of me

I had to buy a lot (and I mean a lot) of lace when I was making the Rie dress for my spring collection, because I needed the scalloped edge of the fabric for the yoke of the dress. And after all was said and done, I ended up with a huge amount of lace from the centre of the yardage, with no pretty edge. What’s a girl to do? I’ve been desperately trying to figure out what to do with the lace remnants because I hate wasting pretty fabric – and then today I had a moment of brilliance. I carefully cut around the floral design, creating a new pretty edge, added lining and a black waistband and presto changeo – a spiffy new lace skirt. I’m so happy, because though I like the idea of a lot of the lace skirts out there, I just hadn’t found one I liked enough yet. Until this one. I think it’s a little piece of perfection! I also have a HUGE amount of black lining lying around, because for some reason whenever I’m in a fabric store I think “ooh black lining, I can never have enough of that! better buy a bunch!”… so I’m thinking I might also make one with black underlay instead of pink.
