Green vintage coat

 
 
This vintage coat was trimmed with rabbit fur. I'm against the use of fur in fashion, but as I bought the coat second-hand I thought maybe it would be okay to keep the fur on. But I couldn't quite bring myself to wear it. So I took off the rabbit fur and sewed on this strip of fake fur. But then I read in a magazine that in some cricles, even fake fur is considered a no-no because it glamorises the use of fur, and onlookers don't necessarily know that what you're wearing is fake. Hmm... well, I think I'll keep wearing this coat, because even when I'm doing my best I don't think I look all that glamorous anyway! Boxy little jacket; a refashion

I took an old pair of light cotton twill pants (below) that my mother didn't want any more and were a bit too big for me, and made this little boxy jacket, inspired originally by those Desigual dresses which used old jeans upside down for thier bodices...

Rainy Day Dinosaur!

December 1, it's feeling fantastic. I'm feeling full of inspiration and motivation and it's just, great! This morning I woke up to the first day of summer and it was RAINING.

I'm sad to hear that Wardrobe Refashion is coming to an end but just wanted to join the others in thanking Nikki for all her hard work and the opportunity that the site has brought me to reflect on my lifestyle and to be inspired by a wonderful network of self-sufficient seamstresses. We really appreciate all you've done, Nikki!

My next refashion project isn't ready to show off yet, but in case this is my last chance to post to this blog, what I've been up to is stitching this suit from a 1967 pattern (which bears an uncanny similarity to an outfit worn by Betty Draper, for it is she) and making Christmas presents with group blog Crafty Christmas Club.

Hi everyone!  It's been so long since I've posted, so sorry!  I've been swamped with other sewing stuff, so I haven't really been sewing for myself.  Anywhoo...my hubby and I went thrift store shopping two weekends ago and I scored two zip up hoodies.  I was really excited to find them since I almost never do.  Check out what I made with one:

Comic Book Refashioned Jacket

This is one of my first 'handmade' Christmas gifts of the year.  I have decided to make (or recreate) gifts for family and friends this year, and try to be a little creative. 

This is a gift for my friends 6 year old boy, a comic book jacket

 

The denim jacket I purchased from eBay, still in excellent condition.  The comic book fabric has been cut from a Movieworld t-shirt I found in Salvos.

 

And some green bias strip from my sewing box as the border, which was also thrifted from Salvos.

 

 

I am hoping the green border is not a bit too much?

A Wool Coat and Some Pixie Wings

I wanted to show you part of the Halloween costume I working on for my 2 yo.  She is going to be a Pixie and I don't want her mistaken for Tinker Bell.  I finished the wings and a coat yesterday.

 
 
I used 2 felted thrift store afghans. 

I used 2 hangers, a pair of pantyhose, a ton of modge podge, paint, handdyed wool locks and glitter.  I still have to finish the dress and leggings, I can't wait to see it all together.  If you'd like to see more pictures you can find them on my blog :)
