About three years ago, our local Wal-Mart was phasing out their fabric department. I got four yards of their pre-shirred fabric, meant for girls' sundresses, for $1.50 a yard. It's a lightweight, bouncy seersucker-like fabric, great for summer. Since I've been making tons of clothes for my very well-dressed daughter, I got the idea to use some of the two yards I have left to make a high-waisted skirt for myself instead.
Before:
I don't know where that funky (and barely visible in the picture) stain in the middle of the fabric came from, since I bought it new. Fortunately, a few weeks ago I crocheted some cotton flowers for another project and had one left over; it is the perfect pink/yellow/orange color combo to match the colors in this fabric, so it was a great cover-up.
After:
This is a perfect summer skirt, and for less than 20 minutes from start to finish, I can't beat that. I'm going to make another from the one remaining yard of the fabric I have left in my stash.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
