My daughter's school goes nuts for St. Patrick's Day, and she, understandably, wanted an appropriately green dress to wear. I found a shirred cotton skirt at the thrift store that would be perfect - right length, right shade of green, and definitely the right price. I didn't get a before pic, but really, it was just a much wider version of this dress:
The straps were made from the extra fabric I had - I probably narrowed it by about 14".
I also made a little wool-felt shamrock for her hair:
