For Christmas, I received a gathering attachment for my serger. So, now I'm trying to come up with things to do with ruffles. Inspired by many of the men's shirt refashions, I mimicked a tuxedo to detail this skirt. The pattern is just a simple New Look pattern for knits. The front and back are the same pattern piece and that's all there is for a pattern. Otherwise, I just ran some of the scraps through the gathering attachment to ruffle them and sewed them onto the skirt. Then I sewed a row of buttons down the center of the ruffles. The fabric was from a friends de-stash effort and the buttons were picked up at an estate sale months ago. The skirt is a little bit shorter than I normally wear. I have a booty, so if I were to bend over without tights on, the view would be quite complete.
I do want to make something like this, but a little dressier. I have a black linen skirt that is half-finished. I may have to finish it now.
