I really enjoyed reading your answers for the book giveaway.  Incase you missed it i asked the question:

'Tell us about your most embarrasing spend, what was it, how did you feel when you handed over the cash/card, and how did you feel afterwards?'

I actually laughed out loud at quite a few of the answers (sorry).  My favourite answer was from Whiti:

I once bought a clip-on ponytail thing when I worked in a shop that didn't match my hair. I hated it before I bought it, but felt bullied into buying it by a fellow sales assistant. I wore it maybe twice and felt like a fool each time!

Costumes and *another* altered purse

Daughter has needed costumes for school the last two Fridays--she was Mozart for a wax museum event (totally cute), and today was "book character" day, and she decided to be Nellie from the American Girl doll/book series.  Costumes are entirely cobbled from stuff in the house or stuff I found in thriftshops--except the wide blue ribbon on the Nellie dress, but I didn't have to cut the 2yds I bought, so I can reuse that on another project later.  I had to alter the white dress a bit--it was too small as-was--but a few snips at the sleeves and an extra panel in back, and it was comfortable enough to wear all schoolday.

Hat Success

Well, there's been more knitting than sewing going around here, so today I'll share my new hat with you. I just wanted something simple to wear around the house. I had some luxurious alpaca/silk yarn left-overs in my stash. I knit this simple hat using a moss stitch. Despite grumbling about how much longer knitting takes than sewing, I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I make lots of hats, but somehow they never look quite right on me. This one's a keeper!

February Works in Progress

Despite the unseasonably warm weather in New Mexico (lilacs are already budding, and allergies are already a bother), I'm still working on pieces for cold weather.  I don't want to go outside anymore now than I did in the cold of December, but now it is because my nose starts itching and my eyes weeping.  So, I've started a muslin for a jacket that I'm making from the thriftstore remnant fabric and vintage pattern I blogged about previously.  

 

I have a lot to learn about tailoring a jacket, so this one is going to take a while.  It is a little bit more difficult to work from a vintage pattern than I expected.  I think maybe there are some basic skills that were assumed instead of spelled out in that era that I don't have.  But, I will!

I'm also crocheting a light scarf to give as a gift.  Even though it is warming up, spring is very windy in Albuquerque, so I think this can still be of use.  The photo makes it look like superman colors, but it is actually mustard, eggplant, and cranberry.

I'll post more pics as I progress!  Till then...

I was going to stop for a bit, because of teaching, but my classes haven't run. :-(

 

So, I am going to get cracking on some refashion stuff. Because of the teaching I haven't always got stuff made and posted, but I am trying a bit of refocusing into this area. And since I rarely buy clothes anyway, I may as well go for life.

Maybe when I do get students, I can get them to come sign up!
