I'm very excited to be a part of this group (thanks Nikki). I have been lurking here quite awhile. My name is Melynda.
I come about refashioning honestly, as my mother was a refasionista way before it was trendy or had a cute name. She was always hacking some garment up, giving it new life. My dresses became my little sisters and so on, down the line. Of course I hated it and only wanted to dress like my friends whose wardrobes came from the mall. When I was in the 8th grade my mother handed me a pile of fabric and a promise to buy any pattern I might need. My love of sewing was born that summer out of necessity, as that was to be the only school clothes I had. I like to say I graduated from the school of DIRODIO. Do It Right Or Do It Over. (Thanks mom)
On to my refashion. I thought I was onto something. I love the 1950 dress patterns, but they take so much fabric. So.. I had a sheet from the 50's. You see where this is headed? Now I have a 1950 dress that looks like it was made from a bed sheet. So I need help. Do I risk an overdye? Do I brazen it out and leave as is? Please let me know what you think.
