Question
My cousin's wedding is coming up at the end of June and I'm busy plotting out the gift that I'll be making. It's a tablecloth, placemats and napkins (and probably a few other things as I go). Just one question.
I have a pile of flatware in my kitchen closet. It was supposed to go to Sally Ann years ago, but I never got around to it. So I'm thinking of taking some of the forks and spoons and turning them into napkin rings to go with this set I'm making, but I've no idea how to go about it...I mean, I know how to bend and shape, but the idea in my head is each ring consists of one fork and one spoon, and I'm not sure the best way to combine the two without welding or getting glue everywhere. Any ideas, tips, thoughts?

Perhaps you could use rivets to connect them together.

That's a possibility...I'm sure one of my husband's friends has a drill....I would need a drill right? To make the hole?

Perhaps you could use a thin strip of metal folded into a very tight loop to connect the two together. You may need to do 2 looks to keep a fixed circle shape for the napkin ring.
Hope this makes sense - would mean no glue etc. Maybe wire would work just as well? a few strands together wrapped tightly?
I think I saw a place-card holder made from a fork (bend the fork spikes to hold a card) - maybe you could do that and just use the spoon for the napkin rings.
They sound really cool - hope they turn out.

Contact your local (??) college art department, or maybe even the high school industrial arts department. They might have some really good ideas on how to go about doing it sans welding or glue or even rivets, and someone might be interested enough to actually, physically help. :)

What about twisting them together, then taking the twisted piece and giving that a slight twisted shape. You could roll the napkins and slide them into the twist.
Whatever you choose to do I think it's a cool idea.

Those are some great ideas folks! I know there's two high schools near my house, plus I go past the Ontario College of Art & Design every day, so if it comes to it, I can likely mine those resources.
Thankfully I've got about 4 settings worth of old flatware (mostly dollar store and K-Mart...lol), so I can play around to see what works best.

You could twist them both into circles but if you make sure one is inside the other (like a chain/series of rings) that way they will still be loose, but connected and it might give it a good look.
