Mittens from sweater
Here is my first try at making mittens from a felted sweater. I didn't use a pattern, ended up with some lumps and bumps, and went back and adjusted one thumb, but they are wearable and warm - the most important things here in Vermont. They go nicely with my thrifted coat. Definitely something I will try again, a bit more carefully next time.

Nice job. They'd go nicely with my thrifted coat too, lol.

Wow, they are super cute. So you just cut up an old jumper to make them? That's a great idea!

Yes, it's pretty easy, though I could have done a better job. You start with a wool sweater, throw it in the wash and dry it (normally a no-no). That "felts" the wool, making it more of a solid weave that you can cut without the knit fraying. Then you can cut up and sew away. I want to try a matching beret next from the same sweater, hopefully using the neck ribbing as the part that fits around my head. I've been thinking about how to go about it. If I'm successful I'll post, if not, well no one could wear the sweater scraps anyway, so it's all practice!
