Howdy do
Hi all, this is Ursula from Seattle. I'm really excited to join Wardrobe Refashion; I was always a mender of my own clothes, but just this Christmas I got a sewing machine (Thx Mom!) and am hoping to learn enough clothing-making basics to keep myself in togs once I'm in law schol. I started crocheting in January of 2006 and really fell in love with making doilies and lacy edgings, and though I've yet to crochet any clothing beyond a headband, my secret hope is to make all sorts of scandalous underthings once I figure out how. I've got a bit of a grudge against off-the-rack clothing, not just because of the horrible labor practices that most manufacturers tacitly endorse, but also because fit is so haphazard and because the nice things are so expensive. (Damn you, Anthropologie! $300 for a dress is not an option!!)
So I went on a fabric-buying tear on eBay last week, and now I've got the following projects lined up:
- A purse made of old kimono fabric
- Some throw pillows in green velvet with crocheted covers (from Ondorisha's Crochet Lace, 1978, which is faaahbulous)
- The inevitable pajama pants, one set in grey fleece with white skull-and-bones motifs, and one set in green cotton jersey with Curious George on them.
- A blue silk crochet pullover (this one's been on the back burner for a while.)
Now if I could just make it to the fabric store to get some notions... Anyway, I'm really looking forward to everyone's posts. Thanks!
