Busy busy!

Things have been busy busy busy around here recently.  The nectar lounge was full over the weekend with a comedy night on Friday, a birthday party on Saturday and another on Sunday!  Phew!  We have live music this weekend and a certain persons 40th birthday party and next week another comedy night, a 21st and our very first Dr Sketchy's anti art school with a fantastic burlesque dancer as our model!

Because we've been so busy there's not been much in the way of crafting being done even though i have a few things to do.  I'll get to them though, i've decided not to stress over them.  I did get to do some dyeing the other day:

more details on this later.  Check out that pot!  I have pots 3 times the size of this, i never use them, i'm considering using them to bath the kids in.  I've also been knitting a scarf for Kev for Father's Day thinking it was this Sunday coming when infact it's September the 3rd.  It's Father's Day in the UK this week, duh!  Oh well, at least his neck will be warm.....when i finish it.  The pattern is from One Skein, kindly loaned to me by the Guru (sorry, she has no blog, but i assure you, she is fantastic!).

The Wall of Yarn exhibition will now begin on Thursday the 29th of June.  This is giving people more time to submit and me more time to organise.  If you're in Melbourne please come by (email me for the address), there will be champagne and nibbles on the opening night.  More info will be on the nectar gallery blog soon, including information about the charity i have chosen to donate the money raised to and details for the next exhibition.

I have lots to show you, i just haven't had a chance to photograph it all, soon soon, i promise!            Tomorrow i get to meet up with this fantastic woman.

Where HAVE i been?!

Is it really over a week since i last posted?!  Crazy!  Where does time go?  I've had all good intentions of posting, i've got a few things to tell/show but i just seem to forget or think 'i'll do it later/after i've finished this'.  Anyway, i finished my first sock last Sunday, it took me 2 weeks which considering my lack of time and that it was my first sock i don't think that's too bad.

Here it is (still got the ends to weave in):

excuse the badly lit photos, they were taken at night.

I love it, mistakes and all! And yes, i've alreeady started the second, although i'm still on the ribbing.

Ok, for those of you interested you can still take part in the 'Wall of yarn', if you haven't already sent me your details please do so at nectargallery@gmail.com.  I will be sending out postage details soon.  I have also set up a new blog dedicated to the exhibitions that will show in the nectar lounge, you can visit the blog by clicking on the link at the top left of my blog.

Postcard swap people, remember the send out date is next Monday, please try to make sure you send your postcards out on time.  I have received a few already but will wait to show them to you.  I better get a move on, mine still aren't finished!

That's all for today, i have something to show you that i won!  yes that's right, i WON something, i can't believe it either, i've never won anything.

Nectar gallery-wall of yarn

It seems quite a number of you are interested in the knitted wall idea, (now called 'Wall of yarn' as i'm including crochet and weaving) so it will be going ahead.  Here are some details:

  • The exhibition is planned for June the 15th.
  • Squares are to be sent to me by June 9th (please include a little info about your square and your personal details), to give me time to arrange and hang them.
  • Your square is to measure 15cm x 15cm in total (roughly).
  • It can be knit/crochet/woven as long as it's made from yarn.
  • It must contain some form of embelishment, this could be done using anything you wish, yarn, ribbon, metal, paper etc the options are endless.
  • you can use any number of colours.
  • There will be a blog and flickr album set up to show the work, when i get around to it in the next few days.
  • The exhibition will be displayed for 6 weeks then i will auction it as one piece on Ebay and the money will go to a charity, yet to be decided.

If you would like to participate please email nectargallery@gmail.com with your personal details (name, blog, email address and let me know of a charity you would like the money to go to).

If all goes to plan and this is a success i will organise more exhibitions using different mediums, if you have any suggestions i'd be happy to hear them.

A success!

After weeks of hard work, stress and excitement we opened the doors to 'nectar lounge' today and for a first day in business it was a great success!

It went from looking like this outside.....

Headless chickens

Not much crafting going on here.  Kev and I are running around like headless chickens at the moment trying to get the place ready to open on Saturday.  We spent yesterday going to the hospitality supply shop to get some last minute things then the rest of the day cleaning and organising.  Today there'll be more of the cleaning and organising and a LOT of cooking and baking.  Here's another sneeky peek, some art that wll be on the walls.

We have 18 participants in the postcard swap now!  I'll be sending out an address list soon.

A very busy day

Yesterday was a very busy day.  I spent most of it on my hands and knees scrubbing the bar floor, what a job!  I didn't quite get it finished though, still a little to do which i'll be doing today i think.  We arranged furniture and tidied away the crap and the place is starting to look like it should.   The day didn't end there though, i made dinner (chicken wrapped in bacon, mashed potato, veggies and gravy, yummy) then i sewed up 5 cushion covers for the sofas in the bar, i wish i'd ordered more fabric to make more, maybe i will once i get a few other things out of the way.  What do you think?  Isn't the fabric fabulous?!

Is anyone interested in another postcard swap?  My sister Natalie (Hi Natalie!) has been asking me since the last one finished if i'd be organising another.  So, if you're interested email me.  I'm going to keep this small, 10 people, so get in quick if you want to take part.  Mail out day will be April 30th so plenty of time to make your postcards.  Don't forget, same as last time, they must be handmade.

Update:  There are 4 places left in the postcard swap, if you want to be part of it, email me your address details.  The swap is up to 13 participants, i think i'll make the cut off 15 so if you still want in email me asap. All places are filled, i'll be emailing a list out soon!

Ok, i'm off to scrub the floor (after i've eaten my sub).
