Funky Army Drape Dress

I've made this dress a couple of times.  I discovered it works best with a slinky jersey, the first one i made doesn't drape as nicely as the second.

When Trish passed on a remnant of Funky Army i snatched it from her hands before she could change her mind, it was the perfect length for a drape drape dress.

This is seriously the quickest and easiest dress to sew.  One pattern piece, 2 seams and the shoulders and some binding.

Instead of a t-shirt style binding like i used last time i used a fold over binding and i like it much better!

It looks great cinched in at the waist with an old leather belt.

Details

Fabric: 1.1m Funky Army viscose/elastane
Pattern: Dress 2 from Drape Drape 2
Changes: A fold over binding on the arms and neck. I lengthened the hem an inch.

Mustard nostalgia

Fabric: lace-Ivory Nostalgia' 100% nylon 
           lining -Mustard organic cotton jersey 
both from Tessuti Fabrics

Pattern: Again, like the dress in my last post i cut this pattern freestyle using a top that fits to get the basic shape. 

Details:   At first the sleeves were longer but they stuck out too much so i cut them back to the shoulders.  I cut the lining and main fabrics and sewed them as one leaving the hem free and twin stitched the hem of the jersey.  The neck and arms are finished with bias binding on the inside.

Amethyst water snake dress

A 40cm remnant of an Armani jersey (Water Snake) set me off on one of my 'I wonder what i could make with this' thoughts.  Why *another dress of course!

I played around with the remnant and some silk crepe de chine in green and was going to go with that until Brianna pulled down the roll of amethyst, we oohed and ahhed over it and i was sold!

I had a style in mind and drafted the pattern freehand using a top that fits.  

Fabric: Water Snake viscose jersey and Paris Amethyst silk crepe de chine both from Tessuti Fabrics
Notions:1cm wide elastic for the waist

It's a little shorter than i usually wear but not uncomfortably short :)

Venus Bay

Oops! I've been away from this little space longer than i thought.  I have been busy working, sewing (of course), getting ready for Christmas (it's next week?!!), researching and planning interesting things for 2012 (more on that later) but best of all was taking some time out to relax with my little family and one of my favourite girls and her family at Venus Bay.

I'm just disappointed we couldn't stay longer!
