Esme in particular has been in need of new tops. T-shirts are always comfortable and pretty quick to sew on the overlocker so after a flick through some pattern books i decided on pattern 'a' from Heart Warming Life Series.
The first one i made was from some stash fabric. I couldn't be bothered with the tie thing at the back, i know i'd be forever being asked to tie and untie the thing so instead of a binding i just made a regular t-shirt style ribbing but using the same fabric.
I was a bit miffed at how large the armholes turned out to be but realised afterwards that they should have been gathered quite a bit before adding the band...duh! That's what happens when you sew late at night.
*The next morning i was woken by Mia and Heidi asking where their new items of clothing were and would i make (Mia) a t-shirt and (Heidi) a pink dress with hearts and stars! (where on earth am i going to find pink fabric with hearts AND stars?) Thank goodness i had to go to work!
That night i made 2 more t-shirts using a viscose/elastane, Black Ladder. This time i gathered the sleeves and they turned out perfectly.
I made the largest size (130). It won't be long before my big girls won't fit into the patterns from the Japanese pattern books i have although many of them should be easy to grade up. I haven't come across many books that are size130 and up, have you seen any?
*My girls seem to think it's perfectly normal to ask before bedtime for me to make them something while they sleep with the expectation that it will be hanging in their rooms when they awake the next morning. What have i let myself in for?! They also find it odd when i tell them that not every little girls Mum sews.
