New York cape take 2

Pattern: Tessuti Fabric's 'New York Cape' pattern
Fabric: Wool remnant from Tessuti Fabrics
Trim: Poly/cotton binding from Tessuti Fabrics
Buttons: from Clegs 
Notes: I made the pattern as it is this time.  The only alteration was to add snaps to the sides and sew the buttons on the outside as decoration.

This is on it's way to someone special. 

Spring garden cleaning

Spring is in the air!  The warmer weather has us wanting to get out into the garden to tidy it ready for the summer ahead.  Our landlord's father in law who lives a few doors away has been working hard in our garden, removing the weeds and trimming back the plants (aren't we lucky?!).  On Tuesday i cleared out the shed/garage.  Oh my what a job that was!  It took most of the day but it was worth it.

Our next job is to do something with our undercover area out the back.  We want to be able to spend as much time as possible out here this summer.  It's ok but it needs a little something to make it more inviting.  Here's how it looks now.

Now the big challenge is to transform this area using as little money as possible because well, we have none!

I've been spending quite some time on Pinterest finding inspiration.....

I have enough fabrics in my stash that i could make cushions and other decorations, it would be a pretty eclectic look but i quite like that.  We need seating of some kind or maybe we could have something like the picture above?  I'd like to cover the ugly roof with fabric but it's a pretty large area.

Any ideas are welcome.

Simple striped tee for me

Thanks for the lovely comments about my New York cape :)  I've worn it every day since finishing it and have had many admiring glances and comments.

Last night i whipped up a simple t-shirt from some black and grey striped jersey.  I had intended the fabric to be a skirt but didn't like the way it looked so changed my mind completely.

I based it on the shape of this top.  Just a front and back, top stitched at the neck, sleeves and hem.  It's not the first top i've made like this, i have a black version in a wool knit too.

• Tessuti's New York Cape pattern
• Check wool (Marc Jacobs?) from The Fabric Store
• Buttons and binding from Tessuti Fabrics
• I made a few alterations.  First of all my copy of the pattern is slightly smaller than the original (because i'm a shorty).  I also shortened the cape by about 5 inches.
• The pattern calls for 2m of fabric, i had only 1.5m and played around with the pattern until i could find a way of cutting it out and matching the check as much as i could.
• Instead of buttonholes i used large snaps then sewed the buttons onto the front.

I'm very pleased with it.
