While perusing Twitter a month or so ago someone (sorry forgot who) mentioned a dress called the Schoolhouse Tunic. Of course i went searching for it straight away and bought it.
I used a piece of fabric that i've had in my stash since our opening party. I love it but haven't come across the right pattern for it until now.
There was just enough and i even managed to match up the pattern.
I made a size 6-8 and used a lot less fabric than the required amount, my fabric was wider but even so i didn't need 2.7m. It would be great if the pattern gave amounts needed for each size but since it doesn't i'd suggest cutting out your pattern pieces and taking them along with you when you go to buy your fabric, that way you don't buy any more than you need.
I changed the pleats adding just one box pleat to the front and one to the back instead of two, i like it better this way.
I feel very retro wearing this and am really pleased with how it turned out. It looks great with sandals for summer (ha! summer pfft) and will go well with stockings and boots in winter with a cardigan over the top. It was quick and easy to sew and i've already bought more fabric (red and cream spotted Japanese cotton) to make another.
(Excuse the creased look, the photos were taken just before heading home for the day and well, it's linen!)
