I've been wanting to make a coat/jacket this winter but was finding it hard to chose a style and pattern that i liked. I'd almost given up when a customer came into work wearing a coat she had made, of course i complimented her on it and asked which pattern she had used. She kindly called me when she got home to let me know she had used a 'Very Easy Vogue' pattern, how lovely!
I'd had my eye on a designer end fabric at work and snapped up the last of the roll along with one of the new Japanese fabrics for the lining and popped down to Clegs on my lunch break to buy the pattern which was half price, bonus!
Details
Pattern: Very Easy Vogue 8429-Jacket C
Fabric: Wool/Cashmere Designer End from Tessuti (no longer available)
Lining: Japanese Cotton/Poly from Tessuti (Grey version of this)
Buttons: Vintage from Buttonmania
Notes: This was extremely easy to sew. I made a size 8 although could maybe have adjusted the pattern to make it a little wider around the hips. I found the instructions for adding the sleeves after turning out the body unnecessary, instead i sewed in the sleeves in both the main fabric and lining then sewed both together bagging them out through a hole in the hem and stitching it closed. Much easier! I also found the underarms a little high although they're not uncomfortable but i would lower them if i make this pattern again. I added the loops for the buttons but decided i didn't like the way they sat and cut them off. Instead i used large snaps for closure and sewed the buttons onto the outside. I added shoulder pads but found them a little too Dynasty for my liking and removed them.
I need to fix a few things, the bottom snap is pulling now that i see it on myself if these photos, it needs moving slightly and i need to stitch the cuffs in place so they don't roll down. Other than that i'm really pleased with how it turned out, i'm loving this mustard yellow right now, it brightens up this wintry weather.
