BurdaStyle uploaded the Jorinde jacket while i was pregnant with Heidi. Erm yes, she did just turn 2.
I whipped up a muslin (in too big a size) and purchased some delicious green/grey linen. Well, a baby arrived, my body shape kept changing, life got busier and the fabric stayed in it's bag on the shelf. Until now!
I cut out a size 36 in calico to make up a muslin. After my last attempt i knew there were some alteration i would have to make. This is how it came out.

As you can see, it fits terribly! There is excess fabric around the top of the sleeve which i ended up having to gather to be able to fit into the armhole. This is not the look i want! And as soon as i fastened the jacket at the front it was too tight around the hips creating a pulled look and heaps of bagging above the hips.
My solutions were to measure the armhole and trim the sleeve to fit.
and also add a vent at the back centre seam.
Here are the results from those two simple alterations.
And now i get to cut into my special fabric!
It is in fact all cut out and ready to be fused. That's a job for this weekend and i'll show you more about the process.
Making a muslin is a long process but very worth the effort. Now that i have made the alterations to suit my body i can see that this will be a pattern i could very well use time and time again using different fabrics and making slight changes to pockets and other details such as buttons and linings.
