Vintage pattern love

I was recently contacted by Jill, a fellow Stitch n Bitcher who moved to Tasmania last year.  She had been helping her husband to clear out his mothers home and found a heap of vintage patterns, garments and pieces of lace and she thought of ME!
Of course i said i'd love to have them and the following pile of patterns arrived in the post with a few other bits on pieces i still need to photograph.

You can see each of the patterns in the pile above over in my Flickr account.  There are more to photograph and add though.

Tag! I'm it.

Colette from Sew Tessuti has tagged me with a literary meme.  The rules are as follows:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

At the moment i'm reading a few books.  Affluenza, which i keep picking up and putting down, it's taking me forever to get through it and i really should just read it and get it over and done with but recently i've been more in the mood for some fiction.  I've also just downloaded Gordon Ramsay's autobiography 'Humble Pie' which i'm yet to start listening to.  I usually listen to audio books while i sew, which is something i've not been doing recently, infact i've not touched the sewing machine in almost 3 months!  Maybe i'll get my act together and get some UFO's finished so i can start on some new stuff i have planned in my head.
What i AM reading though is 'Comfort Food' by Kate Jacobs, the same author who wrote 'Friday Night Knitting Club'.  I'll be writing a little review of it here on my blog once i've finished.  But for now here are the 6th, 7th and 8th sentences of page 123 of Comfort Food.

Gus glanced at him sharply.
"Er, I mean come out and let me assist you," said Oliver, grinning.
Gus began to move in the direction of the stove.

I'm going to tag Fi, Justine, Cintia, Leslie and Leisl.

Thanks to Colette for also for nominating me for a blog of excellence award!  :)

Yesterday you turned 4.
How fast those years have gone.
You fill me with awe and drive me crazy.
I love you anything in the world!

The traveling sheep

Last year i sent a pair of mittens to a friend Mo who at the time lived in New Zealand.  The mittens were made from a recycled fulled sweater i'd bought at the op shop.  Mo now lives here in Melbourne and told me a few weeks ago that she had passed the mittens onto her mother-in-law in the UK.
Mo came over for dinner last weekend with Simon and Ezra and pulled out this little surprise!

Simon's Mum had refashioned one of the mittens into this cute little sheep puppet.  I bow down to you Sylvia.  So from a sweater to a mitten to a hand puppet and it's traveled around the world, that's one well traveled sheep!
