Time
Heidi is now 5 weeks old and she has grown so much, time is flying by. Now rather than time dragging by like towards the end of my pregnancy my weeks seem to go by in a flash, usually with me accomplishing only half the things i've wanted to. I promised myself that i would take some time out once Heidi had arrived and for the past 5 weeks i've been trying to get back into a routine and seeing what works for me and for us as a family. Kev has started back at work with odd hours and I have come to the realisation that i have too much on the go and for now i need to cut back a little. So, I've decided to take a break from BurdaStyle, mainly because it's so time consuming. I love working on BurdaStyle and have done so for over a year now! But, it takes up a lot of my time, i spend hours sewing and then 2 evenings a week writing and editing my posts which leaves little time for anything else. I like to think that i will go back to working on BurdaStyle but i don't know when, i'll know when the time is right. I will still be participating over there by posting my creations and taking part in the forum and sewalongs, i just won't be sewing to a deadline and writing on the blog.
My problem is I have a list that goes to the moon and back with things on it that i want or need to do for myself and my family but not enough time to do them all, things such as:
- Make girls clothes
- Make Kev pj's
- Make myself clothes from some of the patterns i have piling up
- Finish quilts
- Knit socks, hats, slippers, etc
- Make things at my own pace to sell in my online shop (yet to have anything in it)
- bake/cook more (i made pizza, garlic bread and an Eve's pudding last night)
- Craft/play with my girls more
- Get fit
- Continue making Mixtape Zine
- Keep my house relatively clean and tidy
- RELAX/CHILL OUT!!
and there are many more things on the list. Basically i'm getting back to basics and making time for the small things and doing them at my own pace. Now i just need to get back into the swing of things and have a regular routine to work around. It's getting there!
PS. I'm aching after my Burlesque Beat class, maybe that hard butt isn't such a dream after all!

i don't think i have ever had a hard butt
i am coming to the next class with you!
although i might wet my pants...

I like the sound of that class - if it's painful it must be good!
Your list is a goodie Nichola, I'm looking forward to seeing the ticks along the way.

I've just been wondering how many hours there is in your day ;) It's a good list. I have a very similar one myself. You are a wonder woman :)

Great idea with the list! I think it helps to make them - it really keeps me on track. Good luck with getting yourself back into a routine and take your time with getting everything done!

Hey Nikki Shell!!!
Good on you! Once again congrats on your newish bub! But I really think you are good to organise your time and prioritise. If I had a deadline on my sewing I would be crushed. I work such long hours sometimes (always starting at 5am) and dream about sewing all afternoon long... but I get so tired! If I had children I wouldn't do anything!
Well done on all the work you do and yay! generally because you're tops!

Hi Nikki, I'll miss your burda style column! But perhaps you'll still show us things you've made on this blog so we won't miss out entirely :)

I love lists! I am such a list maker and love to see what other people are wanting to do as well... I am sure you will get those things done in no time! :) Good luck with the new baby and everything else! Love your blog!!

Nikki, you're such an inspiration! And yes, I do have a list that bears a remarkable resemblance too

wow. I don't have half your responsibilities (just me, a FT job to keep up with, plus house and cat to feed!) but I do understand this. SOmetimes it's so easy to be running so hard that we don't get things done. I realise the 'net is a big eater of my time - I love looking at creative blogs and get inspiration and sheer joy from seeing what people are doing... but I've begun to realise I'm perhaps overstimulated and not actually producing anything myself...
Good luck with your list, and I'll try to write one too!
