Back in the kitchen
In the last months of my pregnancy Kev did the majority of the cooking since i had no energy or interest in doing it myself. I've started to spend more time in the kitchen this past week, not just to wash the endless amount of dishes or to clean out the disgusting oven (oh yes i did!) and cupboards but to cook and bake too.
Last Thursday night i watched Jamie Oliver's program on tv and drooled over his onion soup. Luckily i had everything needed to make it myself (except sage) so yesterday afternoon i made up a big pot. I also made some bagels for the very first time. I made the dough and shaped them yesterday then boiled and baked them this morning. It's a long process but so worth it, they turned out a little flat but they taste delicious and chewy. I'm thinking a little extra yeast in the next batch may plump them up a little.
I've also made cupcakes with pink icing, scones (topped with jam and cream), pancakes, burgers, pizza and Eve's pudding. Now, what should i make next?
You can find the onion soup recipe here and the bagel recipe here.
Oh and did i tell you i have a 'thing' for Gordon Ramsay at the moment? We love watching Kitchen Nightmare's on tv and have recently finished watching the first series of 'The F Word' and loved it! Now we're hanging out to watch the second series but it's not available on dvd here yet :( I also want to read his biography, anyone have it and want to do a swap?

Hi , Nice bagels ! I got Gordon Ramseys autobiography for Christmas from the hubs. Its fab , I really enjoyed it and he hasnt had the simple life you might think he has.
postage to send to you might be a bit steep butI'll look nto it.
Hope you and yours are well take care Rowx

I don't have it, but I'd love to read it too. I adore Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential books, and have re-read them several times!(Makes me rethink my career change!) I worked with a chef similiar to Mr Ramsey, but with a heart of gold. (I think I kept the swear jar well and truly topped up myself!)
The soup looks delish, as do the bagels. I've got a craving for home made doughnuts with lashings of cinnamom sugar......

I have a bit of a 'thing' for him too... I can't believe you made bagels-wow! In our old neighbourhood we had a great bagel shop around the corner & I really miss it.

I read that bagel recipe, it sounds like a lot of work, but I am tempted to try it. Did you use malt, honey or brown sugar?
...
It's 30 mins later now, I've been reading all the recipes on that blog, they are soo good! I think I'll try 44-clove garlic soup for dinner tomorrow!

oh yum! Those bagels look amazing!! I've never made them, either, but a good friend says they're not that difficult. I suppose one day I'll get over the fear and try the boiled breads - bagels and pretzels!

Gordon Ramsey is my secret crush, he is awesome! I love his shows and didn't know he had an autobiography.. I am going to have to check that out! :)

You did some yummy cooking there! I adore that onion soup. And I ADORE Gordon, he's a major honey and fabulous cook. (shh... don't tell dh!) ;)

Wow all that cooking! It sounds great. Gareth and I are big bagel fans and used to have it every sunday with smoked salmon and salad. They don't take as long as I would have thought, I think the boiling bit throws people. I have a bread maker which makes doing to the dough super easy. I got it for $10 from a Cash Converters and it was such a bargain and I use it a fair bit, enough to warrant it pride of place on the bench!

I am presently in love with Gordon Ramsay too! He f-ing great! We're watching Hell's Kitchen here, it's good but not as good as Kitchen Nightmares. I'm off to see if I can find The F Word.
Your bagels look delicious by the way.

Wow...homemade bagels..I have to try that. Bagels in Australia are sad, and I MISS them, lol.
In this house, dh is the Gordon Ramsay fan...he totally agrees with his policy of abuse, lol. I'm a diehard Jamie fan, myself. :D

Wow those are some handsome bagels! I've been wanting to try bagels but I'm not so sure....
We're Gordon fans too. I gave Mr S+L Gordon's book a couple of Christmas' ago. IT's in storage at the moment but if you're still looking to read when we get a new place and get our stuff out of storage it's yours!

Are bagels hard to make? I LOVE bagels, I've never thought to try making them at home...

What is it about f-ing Gordon Ramsey? I definitely have a 'thing' for him, having recently discovered Kitchen Nightmares (makes me think twice about dining out) and now Hell's Kitchen (ooh, he's a nasty piece of work in that one). They are flogging these shows - three in a week at the moment: love it! And now I hear he has a book AND this other show called 'The F Word', I have to suss out both. (also a Jamie fan - try his pumpkin soup, 'tis yummo).

wow, yumm! that all looks delicious. I've been trying to document our meals, so I can make a cookbook with all the regular recipes. I think I'm going to organize it by season--as that's how we eat!
