NIKKI-SHELL: Getting ready for baby

Di kindly shared her instructions for making a baby sling with me. I made this over a month ago but have only just got around to taking some pictures to share with you.

Made entirely from my stash! I love it when i can do that :)
Denim outer with a Japanese floral cotton lining. It is adjustable at the shoulder so both Kev and I can wear it, this is done with open ended zips and i made a strap cover that fastens on with snaps.

Someone on BurdaStyle posted asking for tips on how to make a breast feeding cover. I had a poke around the web for different styles and came up with this.

It's basically a rectangular piece of fabric (mine is reversible) with a length of boning inserted into the top seam so you can see baby while feeding. As you can see i haven't yet sewn on the strap. Next time i make one i'll make it wider so it's sure to cover everything but for an experiment i think this one turned out pretty well.
I'm making a little jacket at the moment, more on that when it's finished.

Never seen one of those before here (Ireland), I thought it was an apron! but I have to wonder, why should it be necessary to cover up when breast feeding? Or is it for safety reasons or something? Sorry I'm not being funny, just curious as to why/what it's for exactly.:)

i often used ponchos while nursing...i knit some to wear with my february baby...here, in buffalo, it's pretty cold in february - so layers are good. just thought i'd pass that along :)
